Rock ‘n’ Roll

Things are rolling here at the Avon.

Come mid-October, the downstairs venue and bar- The Rock- will be open. It’s called The Rock because it has a distinct feeling of being inside a mine, if a mine had a glowing bar, a movie theater and a stage. This means shows and music in the evenings, not to mention a full selection of drinks. You can leave your pick axe but expect some stellar live acts. We’re stoked.

See you soon.

Here’s how the bar top went down.

The initial step of putting rock down, one piece at a time. Each of these hand cut pieces of slate were collected from the mountains around us.

Setting the rock. Working on leveling the stone so it can be grouted.

The stone is set and grouted, and it’s been brushed with enamel glaze. The pour is yet to come.

Another project we’ve got going on is installing the upstairs taps. These taps are made to work!

Some people say bartending is manual labor. Bartenders at the Avon are craftsmen.

And finally, the antique tin going up above the basement entrance.
