Ski/Ride Kendall Mountain

Kendall Mountain is our town’s back yard ski hill with 240 feet of vertical drop, 4 groomed trails, multiple tree runs, a small terrain park, and 1 double chair lift! Kendall is owned and operated by the town. For now Kendall is a great place for kids to take their first runs or for a kick lap at lunchtime, but that may not be the case for long.

Silverton is investigating the possibility of expanded operations at Kendall with significantly expanding operations. They hired the consultants at SE Group to complete a feasibility study to potential expand the mountain with an additional 800 acres of terrain including glades, chutes, and bowls, The new Kendall Mountain would provide all levels of terrain with a significant backcountry experience.

Ski/Ride Deep Powder at Silverton Mountain

In today’s world of mega-resorts and season pass collectives Silverton Mountain offers a fresh take on the ski “resort”. It is a unique place where with the soul of backcountry and convenience of lift services. To make sure guests have the intended powder experience Silverton Mountain limits the lift tickets for each day. The bus that picks you up at the bottom of the mountain for return to the base area reads “Silverton Mountain Correctional Facility.” Yeah, definitely not your typical resort.

Silverton Mountain offers a guided experience; meaning you will have a world class guide to help you find the fresh stash and to help keep you safe. This is a high elevation backcountry experience; avalanche safety equipment is required and can be rented at the base area. The mountain’s one double lift gives access to 1,819 acres with bowls, chutes, cliffs, and deep powder. In fact the mountain receives over 400” a year on average.

Ski/Ride Purgatory Mountain

Purgatory Mountain is about 35 minutes south of Silverton on US 550 towards Durango. This is the main resort for skiing and riding in the Durango area, but is actual about equal distance between Silverton and Durango. Despite its ominous name Purgatory is nice family resort with a variety of terrain to challenge every skill level. If Silverton Mountain is too extreme or you just need an on-piste day check out Purgatory for a traditional ski resort experience.

With top to bottom snow making capabilities they may also save your ski trip should mother nature be temperamental and be holding out on the usual deep San Juan powder.

Purgatory Resort is located in the rugged San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado, and 25 miles north of historic downtown Durango.
